December Faves

In a tiny amount of time, 2014 will roll over into 2015.  As in, there will never be another 2014.  Ever.  Terrifying, much?  Still, I'm glad a new year is going to be started. To me, a new year means new and exciting opportunities.  Who knows what could happen?
While the old year's still here, I'll share a few of my favorites from this month (see if you can find a color trend--it'll take about five seconds to notice!).

December Faves

1. Patagonia Vest:  I might've mentioned before that my school has a very relaxed dress code.  In fact, most people wear t-shirts for 75 percent of the week.  I try to limit my t-shirt wearing to less than 50 percent of the week, but there are still days where I really, really don't want to dress up.  This vest is a good way to look a little more put together, while in reality, it's still a t-shirt day.

2. Peplums:  Peplums are the rage everywhere.  In the city, at school, and even in pageants, peplums are a favorite.  They are one of the few trends that actually looks good on me, so if I spot one I really like, I'm going to try and get it.  I spent a bit of my Christmas money on this peplum, and I'm already dreaming about wearing it!

3. Tulle Skirts:  Okay, I know what you're thinking:  didn't you stop wearing tulle when you were five?  Yes, and no.  Tulle happens to be a component of many pageant dresses, so it's hard not to wear it.  Also, I've seen some adorable pins lately that feature tulle skirts.  They're so Audrey Hepburn-esque!

4.  Cute Pajamas:  I guess I need to step up my sleepwear game, considering all the adorable pj shots I saw on Instagram Christmas morning. How adorable are these vintage pajamas from J Crew?  Now all they need is a monogram...

Sticker Craze

The days after Christmas are always a bummer.  Sure, you're excited about all of your new goodies, but you aren't so excited about having to wait 364 days for Christmas to roll around again.  I've been trying to think of some cheerful things to get my mind off that fact.
You know what cheers me up?  Stickers.  If you look at almost any preppy girl's Instagram, you're bound to see a picture of her sticker-adorned laptop.  In my opinion, if it doesn't have a sticker on it, then it isn't really yours.
How To Receive Free Promo Stickers -- Prep For A Day

A lot of sites offer free promotional stickers, and all you have to do is ask!
You should start by sending an email to the company's customer service, and it should probably sound something like this:
"Hello, I just wanted to say that I love your products!  I wanted to ask if you offered any free promotional stickers to customers.  If so, my address is as follows: ______________
Thank you for your time!"
See?  It's as simple as that!  Some sites may take longer than others to respond, and other sites may simply send a link to an application form for stickers.  Still, I think that's much better than having to spend five dollars on a pack of three stickers. Geesh!
Listed below are some companies that offer free promotional stickers.  Head over now, and exchange the holiday blues for some cool stickers!

Christmas Dreaming

Giving is better than receiving.  We've all been told the sentiment since day one, and we tend to agree with it.
But we all know that it's fun to make out a Christmas wish list.  I usually ask for gift cards on my real Christmas list, but I secretly make out another list called the "In My Dreams" wish list.  In other words, it's stuff I want, but am probably never going to get unless I become a millionaire overnight.  Heya girl's gotta dreamright?

Christmas Dreaming

1. Kate Spade "Gramercy" Watch:  I actually really need a watch because the only one I currently own is black chevron, and that's kind of hard to wear on a daily basis. In reality I'll probably end up getting an inexpensive one from Target, but if I could afford to be choosey, I'd definitely go with a Kate Spade watch.  They're fancy without being so ornate that they can't be worn with more casual outfits.  Oh, the stacks I could make...

2. Bean Boots:  I've been dying to get a pair of these ever since I saw them on Pinterest. I think they're the perfect shoes to wear in the winter. Unfortunately, my mother thinks that they're some of the ugliest shoes and insists that I'll never wear them, so...I believe my chances of finding these under the tree are slim to none.

3. Lilly Pulitzer "Murfee" Scarf:  I'm all about neutrals (my closet pretty much consists of blacks, whites, and blues), especially for the winter, but sometimes I feel adventurous and want to add a pop of color into my wardrobe.  What better way than with one of these scarves?  In fact, if I could just have a $1,000 Lilly gift card for Christmas, I'd be the happiest girl in the world.

4. Tory Burch "Simone" Riding Boots:  These are the dream shoes for me, and probably tons of other girls out there .  Sadly, they don't come with such a dreamy price...

5. Kate Spade "Cedar Street Large Monday" Crossbody:  I typically prefer crossbodies because they're the most practical to carry around at school, and this one is to die for!  As always, Kate Spade purses are the best purses.

6. Hunter "Original Tall Gloss" Rain Boots:  Who wouldn't love them?

Any dream gifts you wish you could ask for this Christmas?

Christmas Playlist

I love Christmas music.  I love it so much, in fact, that I start listening to the Christmas station in July.  I'm a sucker for the old choir songs.  There is something so gratifying about singing a Christmas song like that at the top of your lungs.  If you haven't done that yet, I suggest you try within the next five minutes.  You'll get my drift!

Christmas Classics and Carols -- Prep For A Day
1. "Hard Candy Christmas":  This one is a bit of a wild card.  I'll never know why I love this song so much, but there's something about it that makes me want to sing it for days on end.

2. "Joy To The World":  What could be happier than this song?  I love pretending to be in an opera while singing this, too!  Not sure which version to get?  My personal favorite is this one with David Archuleta!

3. "Away In A Manger":  At my first chorus concert ever, one of the solos was this song.  It was absolutely magical, and I've loved it ever since.  This version by Celtic Woman is beautiful.

4. "Carol of the Bells":  Has there ever been a person who could resist singing along to this song? I'm super excited to be singing this at my chorus concert in a few days, but honestly, my favorite version is the instrumental.

5. "Little Drummer Boy":  It's a family tradition for us to watch this movie every single year.  It never fails to make my mom sob her eyes out (which isn't such a bad thing).   The song is my favorite part of the entire movie.

6. "Do You Hear What I Hear?":  It's a glorious, triumphant song.  Never fails to put me in a better mood.

Do you have any favorite Christmas songs?

The Pros: Instagram Edition

If I ever am in dire need of inspiration, I have two resources:
Pinterest and (you guessed it) Instagram.  There are some really amazing professional style accounts out there.  Of course there are some newbies out there (*cough* @prepforaday *cough*) who have pretty cool accounts too.  Here are some of my favorite Instas:

1.  @Carly
Account: @Carly -- Prep For A Day
Literally, goals.  Life goals, clothes goals, dog goals...
Her posts aren't just about fashion, either.  She has some wicked food shots in there...and her dog...oh her dog!  If you ever need inspiration, you'll definitely find it on her account (make sure to check out her blog too!).

2.  @PrepAvenue

Think Kate Spade reincarnated, with a little Lilly thrown in there too.  Her account is full of monograms, quotes, pink, and a just a little more pink.  Add in the fact that she has a lovely blog, and you should be sold!

3.  @_LaurenandEmery_

4.  @DanyellyMarie

Let's just say that if you aren't talking happy, she doesn't want to talk.  She is super inspirational, and her style is on point!  Plus her YouTube channel is one of the best out there!

5.  @ExtraPetite

I have a special place in my heart for this account because I'm also petite, and I understand the struggle.  Even if you aren't petite, you'll love this account. Her style is impeccable!

Christmas Is Coming

The goose is getting fat!  Please do put a penny in the old man's hat...
Oh, sorry!  I was just getting lost in the memories from my fifth grade Christmas play.  I think we had to sing that about ten million times.
Christmas is, and has always been, my favorite time of year.  Everything is just so much...muchier.
Everyone's a little happier.  The old humdrum of everyday life has been replaced by this magical, Christmas-y atmosphere.  It's like being at Disney for a month.
Everyone has little traditions at Christmas.  Here's what's in store for my countdown to Christmas:

Day 1:  Start listening to Christmas music.  Actually, scratch that.  I started listening to the Christmas station in July.
Day 2:  Prepare that Christmas wishlist!
Day 3:  Plan my holiday look book (coming soon!).
Day 4:  Solo tryouts for my choir's Christmas Concert.
Day 5:  Try out new hot chocolate flavors.  I'm thinking carmel is a definite yes...
Day 6:  Christmas decorating!  This is probably my favorite part of the holidays.  We have such a schedule to everything.  Although I hate straightening out the branches on our tree, I love putting the ornaments on!  There's a story behind each one, and it's really cool to have that time to look back over them.
Day 7:  Recover from Christmas decorating.  Also, spin around and sing Christmas songs when I wake up and see how beautiful our house looks with all of the decorations.
Day 8:  Start watching different versions of "The Nutcracker" ballet on Netflix.  I love watching them dance en pointe.  It looks so easy but it's so impossible...
Day 9:  Watch "It's A Wonderful Life."
Day 10:  Start gift shopping for my lovely family, friends, dogs, etc.
Day 11:  Wish for a white Christmas.
Day 12:  Daydream about Christmas in Florida and start preparing thank-yous for my Sunshine state relatives.
Day 13:  Bake the first batch of cookies!  Such a yummy tradition.
Day 14:  Figure out that I am just as bad at gift wrapping as I was last year.
Day 15:  The Christmas Concert!
Day 16:  Listen to "Carol of the Bells" while preparing for exams...ugh.
Day 17:  Even more exams!  It makes me really miss those Christmas parties we used to have back in first grade...
Day 18:  Sing "12 Days of Christmas" until I can actually remember everything!
Day 19:  Dance around singing "Joy To The World" because it's Christmas break!
Day 20:  Last-minute candy run.  You can never have enough candy canes.
Day 21:  Watch "It's Christmas Time, Charlie Brown!" with my family.  It's an unbreakable tradition.
Day 22:  Begin the great holiday baking frenzy.  My favorite creation is coconut cake, hands down.
Day 23:  Wait, Christmas is the day after tomorrow?!?  Act like I'm ice skating while in reality I'm sliding around on our wood floors in socks.
Day 24:  It's Christmas EVE!  Sit under the tree and read good 'ol Christmas stories.  Watch all the Christmas classics (Rudolph, Frosty, Little Drummer Boy, etc.), but especially "Christmas Vacation." Basically all the best things about Christmas.
Day 25 (aka CHRISTMAS):  No explanation needed.

Lovely, right?  I'll be sure to share pictures of our Christmas-y house, and that look book's coming to you soon!  I might even put out some of our treasured recipes...

Any things you're doing for Christmas?

Love (a very excited),
